Post Alley Cafe

View Project Details

Located in the historic Hotel Deca Lobby in the University District, Post Alley Cafe had a number of challenges to face. The shop wanted to cater to both the hotel traffic but that of the local neighborhood, which required reconfiguring a previous coffee shop layout in order to give equal from from both the lobby and street entrances. moreNot only did this shop act as the initial branding for the company as a flagship stand-alone store and creating its style, but was also had to work with the very prevalent Art Deco style that is throughout the hotels lobby. As part of the branding, elements such as the neon sign in the front window, the marquis arrow over the point of sale and the 10′ column wrapped with an image of Post Alley at night all give a nod to Pike Place Market, without trying to recreate it. The steel, concrete and custom finished wood throughout the space provides a backdrop to a pop of color found in all of the furnishings as well as hint of UW pride. Historic photos of the market including photos of owners family members who were vendors in the early days of the market provide a living room like feel. Post Alley Coffee has been embraced by the hotel and community and has enjoyed a number of accolades since opening.less
